New York State Police troopers were dispatched to James Street in the Montrose area of Cortlandt shortly after 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, where there was a report of a break-in in progress.

Police said the victims had been woken up that morning in their bed by the sounds of a break-in, prompting them to call 911.

The intruder, later identified as Cortlandt resident Darius McCallop, fled the home and was tracked by responding troopers through freshly fallen snow.

McCallop, age 32, was located on Catherine Street, at which point he was found to be in possession of a stolen wallet containing approximately $780 in cash.

Troopers arrested McCallop without incident, charging him with burglary and criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies.

He was arraigned in the town of Cortlandt Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail.
